Empire Hunan Restaurant
About This Spot
Stepping into Empire Hunan Restaurant is like entering a warm and inviting crossroads of flavors where Chinese and Japanese cuisines meld into a harmonious experience. The moment you arrive on Broadway in Fair Lawn, the calm ambiance and thoughtfully arranged space welcome you with a sense of quiet, understated refinement—an upscale neighborhood gathering spot where the pace slows just enough to savor both company and cuisine.
The atmosphere here gently balances casual comfort with a subtle elegance, offering a backdrop where familiar fare is elevated without pretense. Soft, spa-like music weaves through the air, setting a relaxed tone that encourages lingering conversation, whether you're enjoying a meal with longtime friends or discovering new flavors on your own.
Empire Hunan’s menu invites exploration without overwhelming, presenting dishes that feel thoughtfully composed and generously portioned. From the tender, savory notes of sesame chicken and the delicate balance of fresh sashimi to the comforting familiarity of fried rice and lo mein, each plate feels connected to a deeper culinary story. The variety hints at the kitchen’s versatility—from crisp, shared appetizers that open the senses to house specialties that reveal a nuanced command of spice, texture, and freshness.
There’s a quiet assurance here in the care given to both ingredients and presentation, and while the flavors often lean toward the classic, there’s also room for subtle surprises—like a lightly dressed mango salad or a soothing house special soup that comforts as much as it intrigues. The dining space mirrors this thoughtful approach: clean, spacious, and refined without being austere, making it as much about the experience as the food itself.
With attentive service that never feels rushed and a setting that encourages returning guests to settle in and feel at ease, Empire Hunan Restaurant offers more than a meal. It offers a steady space for joy found in familiar tastes and the shared human moments of breaking bread together in a place that feels quietly special, right in the heart of Fair Lawn.

Ordered the Chicken and Shrimp with Basil to go. The dish was light and not oily, but it could use more flavor. The dining area is clean and gives off an upscale, fine-dining vibe.

Very delicious Chinese food! The portions here are very big and filling and great prices. We started off with scallion pancakes and these were by far my favorite! For our entrees we had the sesame chicken which was also good and the chicken lo mein. The chicken in the lo mein wasn’t my favorite. Overall I would come back to try other items out.

One of my favorite restaurants! The food is top quality. Service is excellent. Restaurant is decent size and spa music is usually playing. Orange beef is sooooooo good.

It’s nice to find an old fashioned sit down Chinese restaurant. A very extensive Chinese/ Japanese/ hibachi menu. We had the Chinese lunch specials. Large assortment and a large portion. Portions were all fresh and presented well. Service a bit slow but server was extremely pleasant. They also have sushi. Saw a ton of takeout orders going. I’ll be back.
